Najam Sethi, editor-in-chief, Friday Times and Daily Times in Pakistan, was awarded the Golden Pen Award for Press Freedom by WAN-IFRA during Tuesday's opening ceremony.
Sethi's struggle in Pakistan has included imprisonment by the government over his newspaper's editorial stance on a number of issues. Through it all, he has managed to persevere and not only maintain the editorial ideals and integrity that he so passionately expresses, but also the company's bottom line.
Dean Roper, editor-in-chief of WAN-IFRA, interviewed Sethi about a range of issues covering press freedom. Here is an excerpt from that interview.
