PVI ‘displays’ its ambitions, acquires E Ink

The Taiwanese company Prime View International (PVI), known for its development of e-reading displays that are already featured on numerous devices, including Amazon’s Kindles and Sony’s readers, has added a powerful asset to its further development: The company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire E Ink Corporation, considered the leader in electronic paper display materials and intellectual property, for approximately US$ 215 million. E-ink, pioneer of the development of the electronic ink technology, is after all a symbol in the e-reading arena.

E Ink and PVI currently support nearly 20 eBook manufacturers worldwide and, with the merger, PVI gains substantial intellectual property and employee talent, while at the same time securing the supply of a critical component during the rapid growth phase of the market. E Ink will continue to supply its products across the display industry and will have access to increased operating funds to boost production and accelerate new technology and product developments.

According to the Marketing vicepresident of E-ink, Sriram Peruvemba, this agreement will help the development of color displays and mass production for next year.

This clever move of PVI makes the Taiwanese company a vital partner for future e-reading solutions.
