Hans-Joachim Putz from the Technical University of  Darmstadt, Germany, talked about requirements for the recyclability of graphic paper products.

He listed the following advantages: Many print products have an acceptable deinkability, especially for print products of large volumes. The industrial deinking process for such recovered paper mixtures is optimized and runs efficiently.

But negative aspects also need to be mentioned: The diversification in printing technologies supplements the recovered paper mixture to be with difficult-to-deink print products. Even small amounts of non-deinkable print products create tremendous troubles in industrial deinking plants.

His conclusion: Each manufactured print product has to be recyclable. This comprises requirements on the deinkability and the sticky fragmentation behaviour and is the responsibility of publishers, printers and contractors.
