After a long and cold winter, Druckzentrum Rhein-Main (DRM) in Rüsselsheim, Germany, celebrated a roof-raising ceremony on 18th March 2010. The management of the joint newspaper printing company of the Rhein-Main publishing group (Mainz) and the Darmstädter Echo welcomed many invited guests as well as construction workers and tradesmen from the participating building companies.
Despite the harsh weather conditions, construction work continued throughout the winter in order to complete the project on schedule. The CEOs of the two companies, Köhler and Rettig, described the roof-raising ceremony as “half time”. Starting May, it is planned to install the printing presses, and production at the new printing centre is scheduled to commence in November 2010.
The new centre will be equipped with Wifag presses, Schur mailroom installations and DotLine CTP systems. A high level of automation will ensure efficiency and flexible production options will allow the output of many different types of products.
The main objects produced at the new printing centre will be the regional daily newspapers of both publishing houses for Mainz, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt, printed in the so-called Rheinish format (360 x 530 mm).
