Presentations from The Washington Post or Daily Telegraph had drawn a lot of curiosity and did not disappoint the delegates. Raju Narisetti, managing editor of The Washington Post, and Chris Lloyd, assistant managing editor of The Daily Telegraph, shared in-depth information about the ongoing multimedia revolution at work in their organisations.

But participants might have placed an even higher value on more local Asian stories with which they could easily identify and from which they could draw practical insights that they will be able to implement in their own companies.

Pichai Chuensuksawadi, editor in chief of the Bangkok Post, explained how editors and marketers have worked closely together for launching Post Today, a Thai-language business and lifestyle newspaper. Fahim Syamil and Yaacub Hussamudin presented the original Malaysian local paper Sinar Harian, which publishes 15 daily editions produced by 150 mojos all over the country.

The Newsroom Summit also featured the launch of WAN-IFRA’s Editors Forum Asia. Patrick Daniel, editor in chief, English / Malay newspapers, SPH, has been elected the chairman of the Forum. WAN-IFRA’s Editors Forum Asia aims to create a unique platform for Asian editors to exchange information and lead cross industry projects on technology and business driven topics.

A pre-conference workshop titled Future-Proofing the Newsroom on 7 July led by Dietmar Schantin, group director Editorial, Advertising & General Management, WAN-IFRA, and Sarah Schantin Williams, WAN-IFRA Associate Consultant, was also successful and drew 18 participants.
