Digital Asset Management

In the March/April 2010 issue of WAN-IFRA Magazine, we feature an article on Digital Asset Management (DAM) on pages 26-29. As there are numerous suppliers in this area and we have limited space in print, we could only publish a small portion of what each told us about their soltion. Here, we are publishing expanded interviews with the vendors for readers to get a fuller picutre of what each told us about their offering.

Responding for protecmedia is Fernando Pérez, Corporate Communication Consultant.

WAN-IFRA: Does Protecmedia offer a stand-alone DAM solution?

Fernando Pérez: Yes, we have a stand-alone DAM solution called QUAY. QUAY is a digital multimedia and multiformat corporate repository that allows a correct management of all archives in order to save resources and to make possible new business ways.

WAN-IFRA: What are the strengths of your DAM solution for news publishers?

Pérez: QUAY is a global multimedia repository that is based on a XML native data base. It has an easy and simple interface for all users and valid for all browser.

QUAY allows an easy and automatic cataloguing of all types of documents and has a differentiated level of access according to the level of privilege of each user. Also has a big flexibility to create different user profiles to access to all types of documents.

QUAY also facilitates the sale of contents through the QUAY’s module called e-commerce. E-commerce is a portal aimed at online commercialize the digital assets. E-commerce has integrated a pay for content system with all the security measures required.

QUAY is totally integrated with the editorial area and allows a high speed searches. Also has a score board for contents and statistic.

WAN-IFRA: Is it easy to integrate QUAY with systems from other suppliers?

Pérez: Yes, of course. QUAY is a stand-alone solution that can be integrated with other systems without problem. We have a SDK for to be integrated by other company, our customer or ourselves.

WAN-IFRA: Once the contract has been signed, approximately how long does it take for a publishing client to begin working with QUAY?

Pérez: The standard product can be prepared to be used from the first moment. If the customer asks for a personalized version, the time is average out at two or three months.

WAN-IFRA: How much training is required for a publication's staff to start using your solution?

Pérez: The normal user of QUAY needs only one day of training. The documentalists need three or four days.

WAN-IFRA: Approximately how many titles are using QUAY globally, and could you please name a few of them?

Pérez: Around 70 customers are using QUAY right now in different countries, these include:

  • Unidad Editorial: 8 million documents. 22 daily publications and 11 magazines. They are selling their contents through e-commerce.
  • Vocento: 13 titles.
  • Sud-Ouest: more than 4 millions of documents.

WAN-IFRA: What developments are you working on in this area now – any planned updates for the near future?

Pérez: We are making improvements in our solution such as improvements in security measures to access to e-commerce or improvements for the documentalists in the massive modifications of documents.
