Golden Pen of Freedom recipient Najam Sethi (Pakistan), Editor in Chief of Daily Times and Aajkal (Pakistan), said that he and other members of his newspaper staff have received and are sill receiving death threats for reporting on terrorism.

He said that the terrorist are very poweful in Pakistan and most of the media there is extremely cautious.

At the Press Freedom Round Table Chris Elliot, managing editor of The Guardian, said that in order for a newspaper to be of value, it must have a thorough commercial strategy.

Elliot said that The Guardian, like other media outlets, must re-examine its financial models to maintain journalistic standards. He said newspaper success isn't possible without a sound financial base.

In 2001 Ahmed Benchemsi, the publisher and editor of the Tel Quel Group in Morocco, launched the national news magazine Tel Quel. It is now the largest-selling magazine of its kind, but Benchemsi, who spoke at Monday's Press Freedom Round Table session, said the company has had its share of challenges in trying to publish such a bold and investigative platform in his country.
