Digital Asset Management

In the March/April 2010 issue of WAN-IFRA Magazine, we feature an article on Digital Asset Management (DAM) on pages 26-29. As there are numerous suppliers in this area and we have limited space in print, we could only publish a small portion of what each told us about their soltion. Here, we are publishing expanded interviews with the vendors for readers to get a fuller picutre of what each told us about their offering.

Answering for FotoWare is Øystein Syversen, Director Marketing & Sales.

WAN-IFRA: What are the strengths of your solution for news publishers?

Øystein Syversen: In additon to the scaleability and modularity of a FotoWare system, the main strength of a FotoWare solution for news publishers is the powerful automated workflow tool Color Factory that can batch process large amounts of images and files. The FotoWare solution can automatically perform image enhancement without any human intervention, also inside a PDF, and make it print ready through automatic file conversion.

WAN-IFRA: Is it easy to integrate your solution with editorial systems from other suppliers?

Syversen: FotoWare is an open architecture solution that integrates with all leading editorial systems in the market.

WAN-IFRA: Once the contract has been signed, approximately how long does it take for a publishing client to begin working with your solution? And how much training is required for a publication's staff to start using your solution?

Syversen: After 1-2 days of set-up and customer specific configuration, and 1-2 days of training, a publishing client is ready to use FotoWare in their daily production workflow.

WAN-IFRA: Approximately how many titles are using your solution globally? Would you please name a few of them?

Syversen: More than 500 titles globally are using a FotoWare solution in their daily production. A few of the titles are Bild Zeitung as a part of framework with Axel Springer Verlag in Germany, Prisma Presse in France, Thairath in Thailand and Editora Globo in Brazil.

WAN-IFRA: What developments are you working on in this area now – any planned updates for the near future?

Syversen: FotoWare has just released Version 7.0 of the product suite. Highlights of the release was the massive speed improvement and connectivity achieved through TCP/IP communications. This groundbreaking upgrade in client – server communication opens up new opportunities for users working in a LAN/WAN environment, or over VPN. FotoStation Client users can now access FotoWeb web archives remotely! Further FotoWare 7.0 news. FotoWare 8.0 will be released next year.
